ReBIRTH

is an immersive installation inspired by the belief of reincarnation, where your immortal soul lives and possesses new forms of life after the passing of an old life. This installation specifically looks at the future soul in the form of a jellyfish, succeeding human form.

The installation consists of a physical immersive experience that mirrors the movements and landscapes that jellyfish experience, specifically how the water changes colour and atmosphere throughout different times of the day.

The installation is constructed from attaching plastic jellyfish sculptures to an overhanging metal frame. The jellyfish sculptures are each individually hand-made from up-cycled plastic bottles and are placed around the metal frame at different angles and heights in order to mimic how their bodies float throughout water. Through the changing of lighting that reflects and glimmers on their transparent bodies, the installation captures the life of jellyfish underwater. The shadows created by the lighting reference jellyfish further in the distance when bodies get blurred due to perspective. Miniature LEDS were placed individually within each sculpture to further make them come to life and replicate their presence when the water darkens at night.

The concept of the installation is to stand centred underneath the metal frame with the sculptures around you moving,, mimicking a swarm of jellyfish.

NATURE WAS A FORM OF INSPIRATION BEHIND THE INSTALLATION DUE TO IT BEING A NEW EXTERIOR WITHIN REINCARNATION.

THE GARMENT REPLICATES A CONCEPTUAL LINK TO JELLYFISH VIA THE LAYERED AND ASYMMETRICAL FABRICS TO MIRROR THE LIFE-LIKE TENTACLES

GRAPHICS

The graphics to accompany the REBRITH installation are conceptual pieces inspired by the new forms of spiritual bodies within the idea of reincarnation.

The first one presents a cloud where clouds symbolise the divine presence and a spiritual world. The luminescent pillars replicate the light guidance to the spiritual world but also used to replicate the theme of jellyfish as structural tentacles.

The second piece shows human form where a glow is presented throughout the body and behind the eyes. When you reincarnate, your soul lives on and in some cases, being reborn into another human rather than nature.

Within the third image, it presents the body of a statue coming to life- mirroring the transformation of a past soul into a new body.
